Beef Jerky With New York Strip Reddit

Is beef jerky really that overpriced though?

I'm past no means a connoisseur of beefiness jerky so feel free to correct me.

Looks like beef hasty goes for about $20/lb.

Top circular is commonly listed as the meat to use in bootleg jerky. Top circular is $10/lb. Figure half the weight gets lost in dehydration, and all of a sudden the loftier price of store-bought jerky is quickly realized.

Anyhow, I've been thinking virtually making some lately only now I'm not so sure it'southward even worth it. Input appreciated.

At local stores that cater to Hispanic customers I tin can become Milanesa Wafer Thin , which is round steak cutting about i/8 inch thick, for $7-8 / pound. It makes cracking jerky without needing to cut information technology yourself.

Top round is on sale for $3.29 a pound by me only yous gotta buy 25lbs at a fourth dimension in guild to get the bargain.

level ii

Don't know why this is getting downvoted, it looks to be on the money.

level 1

If elevation round is $10 a pound y'all're shopping at the incorrect stores. My local specialty butcher sells upper choice circular roast from a local ranch for $7/lb, and he'south not known for bargain pricing.

level two

Upon further review it's possible i had mistaken the exact cutting of meat I was looking for.

Looks like this was a steak cutting, that I'd been getting the $x/lb cost from https://imgur.com/a/iNO2Vdb . So maybe that's what my effect was? The steak cutting, as opposed to any cut that tiptop round might usually be purchased as (such as roast as your butcher's pick)?

Unfortunately it'southward the only item I find when I search 'pinnacle circular' and then perhaps my shop doesn't comport information technology. I'll have to come across what else top round gets called every bit.

level 2

I desire to merely information technology looks like the cost will be about the same. How do I make information technology for cheaper than in-store? What meat should I use? As mentioned, I see top round listed every bit the meat to use simply it would stop up costing about the same as just buying jerky from a gas station, unfortunately.

Edit I see y'all said round likewise but I only meant maybe an alternative or something

My local grocers accept summit round for $iv.00 /Lb correct at present. I make my own jerky, I feel like I can brand a better product than shop bought.

You lot might want to check out r/hasty also.

level 2

I'll check it out. And I must not take the right cut in my search at my local grocery

Looks similar I am seeing the $ten/lb toll for the steak cut https://imgur.com/a/iNO2Vdb

So maybe my issue is getting the correct cut.

Unfortunately the steak cut is the only item that pops up when I search for peak circular. Only yeah, definitely the consensus in this thread seems to exist I must not be looking at the correct cutting. I'll accept to investigate further.

Homemade is delicious and extra fresh since you just fabricated information technology.

It'southward so good: My neighbor bought a dehydrator when I was a kid. I just had the strongest tightening of my braces in the whole of my couple years wearing them, and was in horrible pain just from that. Nevertheless concluded up eating like a pound of it with my friend. Information technology was excruciatingly painful as a kid, but would totally exercise it again.

The meat I buy for jerky tin be plant at about $AUD30 for 2kg. Less if I buy at the local markets.

Jerky/billtong - for reasonable stuff - can exist about $10AUD per 100g.

If I arrive, I go to flavour it how I similar, and go a lot more bang for my buck in terms of quantity.

level i

Meat has gotten then expensive effectually me, I have just stopped making jerky. But the last batch I did make, I started with a 10 1/2 pound top circular, but it was and so fatty and needed so much cleaning up, past the fourth dimension it was hasty, it barely filled two one gallon plastic numberless.

Normally i employ centre round-when on sale. It is less fatty and and I slice it in a meat slicer. But even that is now effectually $8.50/lb., and in majority.

level i

Good jerky is insanely overpriced. $50/lb+ for stuff that isn't consummate garbage like Oberto or Jack Links.

Best jerky I've ever had was bootleg, I merely call up I'd spiral information technology up.
